HVAC READY maintains, repairs, sells, and installs ducted and ductless air conditioning systems for homes and businesses.
What’s the difference? A ducted system blows chilled air through metal or flexible ducts from the indoor blower, or air handler, to each individual space. The indoor unit contains something called an evaporator coil. It is connected to the outside unit, or condenser, by copper tubes. These carry refrigerant which soaks up heat from the evaporator and carries it outside.
Ductless systems, also known as ductless mini splits, include self-contained indoor blowers and most often — but not always! — do not contain any ducts at all. Each indoor blower has its own temperature control. The indoor unit is connected to a heat pump outside by copper tubes that carry refrigerant. Ductless mini-split systems provide heat as well as cooling.
